Class Descriptions

beginner Yoga Classes

Beginners Yoga classes will give you an introduction to yoga poses, breathing techniques, and relaxation methods. These classes will give you a gentle workout and will prepare you for more advanced classes.

yoga through the kosas

These classes are taught using the principles of BKS Iyengar. In learning to bring the body into unity with the pose using correct alignment and props, we learn to penetrate through the sheaths -- kosas -- of our being, from skin to bliss, to the true self at the heart of ourselves. These classes are excellent for beginners and for those with physical limitations.

kundalini

Kundalini classes include posture, meditation, and chanting instruction in the style created by Yogi Bhajan. The breathing techniques can be rigorous, and are meant for healthy students.

ashtanga prep

Ashtanga Prep is a class where you'll be taught this fast-paced practice at a slower rate, and learn specific safer modifications for the more difficult poses.

flow yoga

Flow Yoga links poses in a "vinyasa" style that emphasizes breath as a guide to effective, invigorating movement.

mommy and me

Mommy and Me classes are for mothers who would like to practice yoga while continuing to be with their infant.

yang/yin

Practice begins with active flow of asanas (yang) linked to the breath. Class will end with restorative poses (yin) with use of props.

viniyoga

This is a meditative style that coordinates movement with the breath. This class works with individuals' needs and abilities. The function and purpose of the pose is emphasized over the form, and instead of the use of props the pose itself is adapted.

vinyasa flow

Vinyasa flow integrates sun salutations with standing poses. This style links movement, breath and music.

yoga/kosas (all levels)

These classes, taught in the style of yoga master B.K.S Iyengar, emphasize alignment of the body. With the help of props, these classes are safe for students with injuries and are beneficial for beginners and students of all levels.

chi gung

Chi Gung, a gentle series of motions, is a centuries-old Chinese discipline. It improves circulation and helps relax and strengthen the muscular and nervous systems. By cleansing the body of accumulated stress, all aspects of health are improved.

Hatha Yoga All Level classes can be safely attended by relatively healthy, relatively injury-free beginners. These classes will help you develop the strength, flexibility, breath engagement, and internal awareness necessary for an effective regular yoga practice.

slow deep stretch

Slow Deep Stretch classes are a great way to relax and are great for students of all levels. By holding stretches for extended times the muscles are given a chance to truly relax and lengthen, and the mind is given a chance to quiet.

led ashtanga

Led Ashtanga is a directed version of this rigorous flow-yoga style's set sequence. Healthy, active beginners are welcome, although it will be extremely challenging (most of all from an ego perspective). Even so, everyone can get the hang of it with consistent practice.

mysore-style ashtanga

Mysore-style Ashtanga allows you to do this practice's set fully sequence at your own pace and breathing rhythms. You'll get the inspiration of a group practice, and at the same time receive more individual attention than in any regular yoga class. Saturday morning class includes a Saturn propitiation chant.

noontime power hour(flow)

One hour of strong vinyasa flow to strengthen the body while moving with the breath. This class is great for flushing toxins through sweating and building inner heat.

meditation

Meditation—The aim of yoga according to its foundational text, the Yoga Sutras, is the mental focus and clarity gained through sitting meditation. Yet for many practitioners, discomfort is a significant obstacle. In this class, we’ll work to extend the spine as well as open and release areas of the body that inhibit happy sitting.
